What is Irlen® Syndrome?
Irlen® Syndrome is a set of symptoms related to a subset of the population whose brains struggle to process light and visual stimuli effectively due to a hyperactive visual cortex. Visual signals enter the brain through the eye and travel to the visual cortex. The Irlen® brain doesn’t know how to process the information causing a variety of symptoms which vary from individual to individual. This results in visual distortions not related to sight.
This hyperactivity can also cause other parts of the brain to overreact, leading to a variety of symptoms, which may include:
* headaches
* migraines
* attention deficits
* learning difficulties
* overall stress and anxiety
* peripheral vision issues
* depth perception issues
